Brawl Chess Review: A Good Beginner Chess Game

Korra’s braids are usually pretty thin, but if you watch an action sequence from the show you’ll see that her hair thickens in combat. Meanwhile, Aang’s bald head and distinctive ears separate his silhouette from those of pretty much every other Nickelodeon character ever created. As protagonists of some of Nick’s biggest shows, they’re natural shoo-ins for a game - especially a fighting game. Still, it’s refreshing to see some confirmation that we’ve got at least one Avatar stage and two Avatar characters. If they weren’t in All-Star Brawl, there’s no way in hell I’d have considered playing it. Now, though… Well, I might start playing Smash again so I can become an esports pro as a Korra main.

Hopefully there are more characters, stages, and tracks from Avatar included in the final game. As for now, though, I’m just happy that it seems Avatar is being included to at least some extent. This is my favourite series ever made, and, honestly, I’m relieved to finally see it being represented in a modern video game, even if Aang and Korra are getting into fistfights with the dinosaur from Rugrats.


Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was announced just a few days ago, but it's already getting a lot of gamers excited with its Super Smash Bros. comparisons and homages to Nickelodeon history. There have been numerous Super Smash Bros. copycats in the past, but this one seems to be the most colorful and thoughtfully crafted. This is a problem that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl might end up facing as well, with the pool of available characters being limited both by resources and the fact that all of Nickelodeon characters would be hard to include in the game. Fans should keep their expectations in check because the game has just gotten its trailer, and despite the roster comprising fourteen characters from ten different shows, there is no way to know exactly how many are planned for release and how many will come after that. Regardless, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl remains a very fun game for Super Smash Bros. fans to pick up once it releases this fall, and it packs plenty of action alre

If you skip to 0:35 and pause the screen, you’ll see Patrick Star dropkicking Nigel Thornberry, which understandably draws your eye away from the rest of the frame. Once I saw the white buildings adorned with green and yellow, my mind instantly went to Ba Sing Se - but it could have been somewhere else, right? As distinctive as Ba Sing Se is in Avatar, the portrayal here is 2D and nondescript outside of a vague coloration similarity.

This too is not very different from what Super Smash Bros. games have done up to now, and then there is also a similarity in terms of what Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has to offer with its multiplayer system, supporting both local and online games for up to four players. Thankfully, this emphasis on character models helps bring Speed Brawl 's world to life. The game shows players an alternative version of Britain, albeit a very different one from the likes of Another Sight or Not Tonight .
