More than any other game I can think of in the past few years like it, Overwatch is one of the most welcoming and inclusive competitive games I've ever been able to enjoy and play regularly. Compared to many other competitive gaming experiences that require players to sink dozens (or hundreds) of hours into the game to grasp its nuances and strategies, Overwatch truly embraces its ability to not only get players started with the core concepts easily, but how it allows players of all abilities and skill levels to contribute and play their part in the t

_However, now that the awards have been given out and games have been chosen, this week we're diving into the staff's selections for their top Game of the Year pick and favorite game of 2016. In this installment, Features Editor Ryan Meitzler makes the case for Blizzard's vibrant and fast-paced online shooter, Overwatch. You can also catch up on the previous features in our series on Darkest Dungeon , Firewatch , and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End for our Game of the Year title

Overwatch didn't even really register on my radar until a few months before its release. I'm someone that generally sticks to playing mostly single-player titles: if I do pickup a multiplayer game, it's usually for only a few months at most before I either move on to something else or gradually lose my interest. However, the videos I'd watched and previews I'd read prior to Overwatch 's release grabbed my curiosity: once I had my hands on the Fps Game Maps's open beta right before launch, I was officially hooked and it had my attent

Skill ratings below 500 will no longer be displayed.

Developer Comments: We’ve noticed that some players have been deliberately throwing their matches in an effort to reach the lowest attainable skill rating. We obviously don’t want to incentivize this behavior, because Competitive Play works best when everybody is try

Mei remains a slightly mysterious and underdeveloped Overwatch character, but the traits of the bespectacled heroine we know with certainty make Bingbing Fan an excellent casting choice. Many will likely know her best from her role as Blink in X-Men: Days of Future Past , but her career in China includes numerous instances of her serving as the heart of an action film. She’s able to convincingly hold her own when it all goes down, but it’s her sparkling personality that helps her truly shine as an ac

Blizzard promised us new maps in 2017, and boy did they deliver! The new king-of-the-hill map Oasis was released just three days into the new year. Now that's what you call making good on a promise. With 362 more days in the year, though, Overwatch players are wondering what else may be in the works for the development team. Oasis comes chock-full of backstory as a technologically advanced utopia society, founded by eight of the world's leading scientists. Despite having killer traffic (watch out, the cars will knock you off the map!) and boasting an amazing elevator of death, the three Oasis maps are actually quite symmetrical and seemingly basic. King-of-the-hill maps are fun, but players are also hoping to see more payload or multiple objective maps in the future. And although a flashy story is nice, fans also want to see more of the places they've already seen in Overwatch 's digital shorts and comics. Can we build upon the lore a little more before expanding the unive

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS: New Hero: Orisa (Tank) Built from the scraps of the city’s decommissioned OR15 defense bots, Orisa is still learning how to optimally perform her function. What she lacks in experience, she makes up for in her steadfast dedication to keeping her city—and her creator, Efi—safe from harm. Orisa is the sixth tank to join the Overwatch lineup, and much like her programming, her gameplay is engineered around protection. Her main weapon is a rapid-fire Fusion Driver , an automatic gun with good range and accuracy even at a distance—though it comes at a cost. Orisa’s movement slows down while she fires and players will need to plan for a lengthy reload time. Her alternate fire, Halt! , launches a graviton charge across the map, slowing nearby enemies as it passes, then pulling them toward it when it detonates. Her Fortify ability boosts her personal defense, reducing damage taken and making her unstoppable for a short time. She can throw a device that creates a curved, stationary Protective Barrier , perfect for intercepting projectiles and shielding teammates from the front, sides, and above. Lastly, as her ultimate ability, Orisa deploys a high-powered Supercharger that beams a buff to allies within its range, increasing the damage they can inflict on the opposing team To learn more about Orisa, click he
